Q: Are you confident that you can turn all this around?

Wilfried Nancy: “Yes, I’m confident because, again, I had to make choices tonight regarding the team that I made. Also, we have a few players away regarding the situation. So, again, I’m confident with where we want to go. The reality is, for the moment, this is for this game. This was a tough game. It was difficult for us in this game. But I think that we’re going to get better.”

Q: The game this weekend against (the)Rangers, do you feel this could be defining for your future?

Wilfried Nancy: “No, not at all. Each game for me is important, and for the team is important. I don’t think about my future. I think about what I do now and what I need to do to improve the team and what we need to do also to improve the team. This is the way I think.

Q: Do you understand why supporters would be concerned? Some good things in the first half at Livingston, and tonight so few positives. They’re not seeing progress?

Wilfried Nancy: “Progress, there is progress. But tonight, again, where we are, and the opposition that we faced was difficult. This is the reality. I’m not accepting that, I’m not saying I accept that. I’m saying that this is a fact. Now, what we need to do to improve that, this is something that we’re going to work on, and we’ve been working on since the beginning.”

Q: Are you confident Paul Tisdale and the recruitment team can get you the players you need to rebuild the squad?

Wilfried Nancy: “Yes, we are working on that. This is the idea.”

Q: Wilfried, you said you thought this was a tough game but the Celtic fans look at this as Celtic against Motherwell. Motherwell have a tiny budget compared to Celtic. So is that your stance on things, that this was always going to be a tough game for Celtic? They don’t expect it to be a tough game. Can you understand that?

Wilfried Nancy: “Yes, I understand that. But for me, there is a context, there is a fact. This is the reality. I’m not saying that I’m an underdog. I told you that before. When we play a game, we want to win the game. But the reality at this moment is, for this game, we didn’t have a good game. After that, we can talk about the budget. Yes, I know where I am. I know the club that I work with. I know that perfectly. I can understand the concern. But at this moment, this is the reality.”

  1. Excellent, if depressing synopsis David. Invest some time in mentoring your colleagues in the art of fine writing in 2026….

  2. Difficult to disagree with any of that and it’s about time you got brutal with certain players.
This is the poorest Celtic team I’ve watched, since the eighties, just dire. Far too many just not good enough, or just stale. Absolutely awful at the back, a goalie who gives me palpitations with every attempted piece of ‘distribution’, a midfield with zero creativity, including the captain, a succession of wingers who, simply, just can’t cross a ball and a raft of strikers who couldn’t score in the old ‘Palais de Dance!’
If we don’t have better than that, in the academy…..then what’s the point of an academy.

  3. Frank Thompson on

Nancy , Tisdale and most of the Board who formed a concensus to bring these two Saboteur (Duds) to Celtic Park should be instantly dismissed . Add to that , get rid of the over-rated players commanding good salaries with Celtic , starting with :- Engels , Hetate , Tierney , McCowan , Yang , Ralston , McGregor ( who , like Brendan before him ) is off to SAUDI to continue their jersey kissing in warmer climes .
It could take years to sort-out this mess —-Time for an instant S.O.S. to ANGE and Martin O’ Neil —-Who would hopefully come to oversee a REBUILD and put our Great Club back to where it should be in both Scotland and Europe . In the past we have had some crap players who lacked ability but made-up for this with effort and pride in the jersey they wore sadly those days are gone with crowd of impostors who now wear the Celtic shirt .
Jock Stein said that , ” The Celtic jersey did not shrink to fit inferior players ” , unfortunately , it has shrunk for many over the last few seasons .
