Scott Brown shows his professionalism as he takes a shot at Leigh Griffiths for being out of shape

It’s fair to say that many of us have put on a few pounds during the lockdown period, but you have to think that a professional athlete would do all they can to avoid that.

The margins in the game are so tight just now that every advantage needs to be taken, so turning up for pre-season out of shape isn’t a good look.

A report from Football Insider has looked at some comments from Scott Brown, and they appear to be directed at Leigh Griffiths.

The report alleges that Griffiths was overweight and out of shape when he came back for training, and it means he had to miss out on the trip to France to stay behind and get fit instead.

Speaking about the approach to fitness Broony said the following:

“You just can’t, those days are gone where you used to have a little bit of leeway where you could come back after putting half a stone on and you’d have a couple of weeks (to get into shape).”

“It’s frowned upon now, they go straight at it, understand what’s at stake and you get to let yourself go a little bit occasionally but after that you need a really good excuse and if you’ve not had trouble with injuries, you really are up against it.”

This does show that Lenny is taking a hard line on the squad and he won’t show any leniency towards players who have served him well over the years.

It’s also a huge problem for Griffiths because it was generally accepted that he would be the second choice striker this year, but he’s annoyed Lenny and Patryck Klimala scored a nice goal today, so he could find himself slipping down that pecking order.
