Ross County manager John Hughes reckons that Celtic should give theRangers players a Guard of Honour next Sunday IF the game goes ahead. He makes a decent point at the end about the lack of noise coming out of Ibrox early this season – at a time when Celtic were getting dragged into one situation after another.
However that’s as far as we’d go to agreeing with anything John Hughes has said in his interview today with Sky Sports. There was of course no Guard of Honour at Ibrox two years ago when theRangers had their chance to do it for newly crowned Scottish Premiership winners Celtic.

The chances are we’ll never know if Celtic would have done this or not because the game as it stands is in serious danger of being called off after the weekend of violence, sexual indecency, sectarian behaviour, vandalism and widespread breaches of the Scottish Government emergency restrictions due to the pandemic. The Scottish First Minister is currently reviewing whether it is safe for this Glasgow Derby – scheduled for next Sunday can go ahead.
Writing in his column in The Courier the former Celtic goalkeeper Rab Douglas reckons that the game will be called off due to the disgraceful scenes at the weekend from theRangers fans.
“I’d be very surprised if the Celtic v (the)Rangers game scheduled for a week on Sunday goes ahead,” Douglas stated.
“For me, the risk involved in letting the game take place, whether it’s fans gathering at Celtic Park or somewhere else in Glasgow, looks too great. The league is won. So why take that risk?
“We’ve been battling away for a year as a country to keep Covid-19 under control. We’re now getting to a stage, with vaccinations starting to reach more of the population, where it feels like there’s maybe a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if the Scottish Government look at the situation last weekend and decide they won’t allow another potential flashpoint match to take place – particularly now the result doesn’t count for anything other than pride.”
Here are the First Minister’s tweets from over the weekend as the shocking scenes emerged.
I share folks’ anger at this. Everyone has made so many sacrifices in the past year & seeing a minority risk our progress is infuriating & disgraceful. It is deeply unfair to the entire country, and the police have a hard enough job already. Please ask fans to go home @RangersFC https://t.co/haH5DAzhIh

And if a spike in positive cases happens the call-off seems inevitable. Looks like it won’t be us taking our medicine Yogi…
