Talented Celtic youngster expected to complete Premiership loan – Will get a chance to start regularly

It’s already hard enough for Celtic’s kids to break into the first team, but actually establishing a regular role is even tougher.

Adam Montgomery looked impressive last season in his handful of appearances for Celtic, although a loan spell at Aberdeen was more disappointing as he struggled to play regularly.

This season it’s being reported that he’s set to join St Johnstone on loan, but at least this should give him a chance to play regular first-team football.

The Saints are going through a rebuild just now after losing several key players at the end of their contracts, but the left-back role is also a need just now after injuries to Callum Booth and Tony Gallacher has left them short.

It will be an interesting transition for Montgomery as Callum Davidson tends to play with wing-backs so he’ll be asked to play a different role, but the loss of Shaun Rooney on the other side could make them more balanced and it means the youngster could have a big role to play.

He’s shown he has the talent to play at this level, and this loan spell will show if he has the ability to play consistently while also testing his ability to defend and adapt to a different style of play.
