Team’s Up – O’Neill makes one Celtic change but transfer inactivity tells

Martin O’Neill has named his Celtic team for this evening’s Scottish Premiership meeting with Falkirk…

The Scottish Champions face John McGlynn’s Bairns at the Falkirk Stadium and O’Neill has made one change from the team that demolished Dundee United at the weekend. Benjamin Nygren comes into the team with Reo Hatate dropping to the bench, as predicted on The Celtic Star earlier today.

Kasper Schmeichel starts in goals.

The Dane kept a clean sheet at the weekend and he’s joined by the same back four with Araujo starting at right back, Kieran Tierney at left back and a central pairing of Auston Trusty and Liam Scales.

Callum McGregor captains the side and he’s joined by Arne Engels in the deeper midfield berths. Nygren starts in the slightly advanced role.

Daizen Maeda leads the line with Sebastian Tounekti and Yang in the wide areas.

Subs: Sinisalo, McCowan, Kenny, Bernardo, Hatate, Murray, Forrest, Donovan, Ralston.

It is widely acknowledged that Celtic have been very unlucky with injuries this season; however, the bench looks weak in terms of attacking reinforcements. James Forrest is a club legend but is in the twilight of his career, he is not expected to be pushing any of the regular starters for a place. Balikwisha is, once again, not included in the matchday squad, leaving many wondering why he was signed in the first place.

There is also the issue up front with Daizen Maeda being utilised through the middle. Johnny Kenny is on the bench and there’s no sign of Shin Yamada. Reinforcements are desperately required, especially with Kelechi Iheanacho’s chequered injury record.
