The feeling appears to be mutual, Stuart! Celtic support’s response to Armstrong

SOUTHAMPTON midfielder Stuart Armstrong has told the Scottish media that he doesn’t miss Celtic. Well, judging from the results of recent The Celtic Star poll, Celtic aren’t missing him either!

Last week out poll asked for the support to choose one from a choice of three midfielders that they would like to see in the current Celtic team based on football reasons only.

The three players that were available for selection were Stuart Armstrong, John McGinn and Ryan Christie.

Armstrong left Celtic in the summer in a £7m transfer to Southampton.

McGinn opted for a move to Aston Villa rather than Celtic on the last day of the English transfer window in August, after spending his summer waiting on a transfer fee being agreed between Hibs and Celtic.

Ryan Christie came into The Celtic midfield at Murrayfield at half-time in the Betfred Cup semi-final against Hearts and turned the game in Celtic’s favour – scoring one and making two goals in a vey comfortable win.

The Southampton star spoke about the reasons why he opted to leave Celtic to joins the Saints.

“As an individual I wanted something new, a new challenge, and if I hadn’t taken that opportunity I would have regretted it,” Armstrong said.

“I wouldn’t say I miss Scottish football. I had my time here I was very grateful for it and had a lot of nice memories.”

Armstrong has spent much of his time at Southampton warming the bench, although he did get a start at the weekend and impressed.

“It’s always hard when you’re not playing games, not starting games especially, because nobody likes sitting on the bench.

“I’m not the most patient. I need to learn to adapt. I’m in a different league – I spent eight years in the Scottish league.”

And he talked about the ‘what if’, if he had remained at Celtic, in his media conference today.

“I would say it’s a different type of challenge. If I’d stayed at Celtic and continued to have success I’d view my career when it finished as a very good one and a very successful one.

“I think each individual is different, they’ll have their own desires and want to have their own experiences. I grew up watching a lot of Premier League – it’s something I dreamed about as a young player.

“That was my own interest and something I’m very happy to be experiencing right now.”

Fair enough, Armstrong always saw his move to Celtic as a stepping-stone to the riches of the Premier League and he certainly is getting more money these days after his move.

So we can see that he doesn’t miss Celtic. The only point remaining is to consider if Celtic miss him and that’s where our recent poll is fascinating. Over 650 supporters have voted so far, you can do so now then check the results…
