The Frank Lampard rumour that could play into Celtic’s hands

Everybody knows that Celtic are trying to appoint Eddie Howe as their next manager, so the delay in any kind of confirmation is always going to lead to speculation.

In many ways it seems logical to assume that Howe is waiting to see if any Premier League jobs open up for him, but there could be so many reasons for him taking his time.

He’s been linked to a few different clubs but the only one that really looks likely is Crystal Palace, so a report from Football Fan Cast does make for interesting reading.

They suggest that Celtic have been interested in former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, but it now looks like Palace are hoping to appoint him as their manager next season.

There’s never been a suggestion that Lampard was a serious candidate to replace Neil Lennon, but he could still help Celtic out if he takes that one job that does look suited for Howe.

That report also states that Howe has spoken to Palace about the job so there’s clearly something there, but they’ve approached Lampard and that does suggest that the former Bournemouth boss is not their first choice.

If the Palace job is no longer available then there aren’t any other obvious destinations for Howe, so hopefully an agreement can be found soon so he and Celtic can start building something special for next season.
