‘They Absolutely Killed Us’, County Star

Ross Laidlaw has held his hands up and admitted that there was nothing Ross County could do to stop imperious Celtic on Saturday. Despite it being 6-0 at full-time, it was only 1-0 at half-time thanks to the efforts of Laidlaw. The ex-Hibs stopper kept Celtic at bay after Mohamed Elyounoussi opened the scoring after just 3 minutes.

As reported in the Scottish Sun, the 27-year-old was constantly in action as Celtic pushed and pushed to add to their total. Excellent first half saves from on-form Odsonne Edouard frustrated Neil Lennon’s team but the inevitable number of attempts soon turned into goals.

“Yeah, I made a few saves. I had to, because we weren’t at the races.

“We caught Celtic on a really good day, they were brilliant. We just couldn’t live with them.

“It was just the speed of them, they had players everywhere — standing in the goals, I could have sworn they had two or three more players than us, at least.”

In ten second half minutes, Laidlaw picked the ball out of his net four times as the Celtic onslaught began. Double figures wouldn’t have flattered Celtic, who registered fourteen shots on target to County’s one whilst the Champions had nine corners to the Highland side’s none.

“They came at us from every angle, they absolutely killed us in behind.

“They had so many players in different areas who were brilliant. Thing is, we were pretty positive to come in just 1-0 down at half-time after them having had so many chances.

“We were still in the game, but we lost a poor goal straight after the restart and next thing it was 4-0 after 50 minutes. After that, it’s just damage limitation.”

Laidlaw joined Ross County this summer after leaving Hibs and was joined by former-Wolves youngster Jack Ruddy, to make up the goalkeeping unit of the Dingwall team. County slip to six in the league table and face another away trip this week, this time to Hibs.
