I would estimate that around 5000 Celtic supporters gathered outside the front door at Celtic Park last night after a call by the Celtic Fans Collective to protest against the Celtic Board in the wake of that remarkable rant from Dermot Desmond on Monday night that was posted on the official Celtic FC website.

Not all Celtic supporters agreed with what the Irish billionaire had to say, or how and where he said it, but for Celtic as a club the show has to go on and it did that after the protesters made their point and entered the ground for what was an enjoyable night watching our team play brilliantly under new boss, the interim manager Martin O’Neill.

It’s hard to know exactly what was being said by the Celtic Fans Collective as the sound system performed like the Celtic defence at Tynecastle on Sunday – hopelessly. Still within the chants we all got the message. There were some flairs for added colour – not a problem outside of the ground – and some rather dramatic posters all around the outskirts of the stadium. The protest was well attended, peaceful and did not interfere with the team who duly delivered the three points and also for the first time in a while they were able to go about ‘putting on a show.’
How we’ve missed that.
This morning the Celtic Fans Collective issued this short statement:
“Apologies to anyone who couldn’t hear our speakers due to PA issues last night. In the end, the numbers spoke for themselves – thousands made their voices heard loud and clear. Thank you for standing together and for amplifying the message.”
Inside the stadium there the ‘Martin O’Neill, Martin O’Neill’ chant was the tune of the moment and it was updated too with the new topical version of ‘Sack the Board, Sack the Board’, again getting the message across.

Dermot Desmond was there to hear this for himself. Like the other Celtic Board members they’ve seen this before, the last time during the COVID season fiasco, and will pay little or no attention to it. But the Celtic Fan Collective speaks for such a large percentage of the Celtic support including all the associations that means they will have to be heard eventually.
Next up in this saga will be the AGM in three weeks time when shareholders get their annual opportunity to put questions to the Celtic Board, with The Celtic Trust at the forefront of that.
