Transfer Latest – Celtic linked with Shamrock Rovers striker

According to newspaper reports today, Celtic have been linked with a move for Shamrock Rovers teenager, Aidomo Emakhu. The 18-year-old is said to have caught the attention of Ange Postecoglou ahead of the summer transfer window opening, with the manager casting his net far and wide for talent.

Postecoglou has already raided the Irish club before, landing left-back Liam Scales last summer for a modest fee. Now the Greek-Aussie looks like returning to that particular football well for another talented young player. Links with Rovers are inevitable, with Celtic majority shareholder Dermot Desmond having a stake in Rovers also.

The Celtic Star reported back in November that Celtic and Ange Postecoglou were looking at a teammate of Emakhu’s, Danny Mandriou, with the potential of reuniting him with Scales at Lennoxtown. The midfielder had been prolific in the Legaue of Ireland at the time, which caused murmurings over Celtic interest.

This of course, could all be paper talk considering the amount of links with Rovers’ players. Concurrently with the links to Dermot Desmond could be making the rumour mill spin. However, the report does say that the youngster is raw and has plenty of room for potential improvement which wouldn’t be out of the question. With Celtic having to make top class players these days as opposed to buying ready-made, it makes sense that a market just next door is being watched closely.

However, both teams in Italy and England are monitoring the situation with the budding striker with a view to making a move. Newly crowned Europa Conference League champions Roma and newly-promoted Lecce retain an interest. Whilst down South, Southampton and Wolves are keen admirers.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
