Transfer Latest – Celtic to enter race for Aston Villa attacker Louie Barry

It’s no secret that Celtic are looking at adding more firepower to the squad in this month’s transfer window…

With just two players in Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kühn covering the flanks for mostly the whole season, it’s clear that Brendan Rodgers is needing more options up top to help his side both domestically and in European competition.

Links have emerged to Sarpsborg attacker Sondre Ørjasæter, who it’s claimed by Sky Sports that talks have begun to thrash out a deal which would bring the £7M-rated winger to Glasgow’s East End. Anthony Joseph confirmed that Brendan Rodgers had decided to make the call for Celtic to enter into negotiations with his club to secure the promising talent’s services.

With that ongoing, Football Insider have now broken with the news this afternoon that the club are also set to enter the race for highly sought after English wide man, Louie Barry. The Aston Villa ace has been out on loan from his parent club and has caught the attention of various suitors with his form in League One for Stockport County.

Unai Emery has recalled Louie Barry to Villa Park

16 goals in 24 games from the left-sided forward means that Aston Villa have been inundated with offers to take the 21-year-old on loan for the second half of this season, as Unai Emery has recalled him to Villa Park to run his eye over the rising star.

It’s not been decided what the Spaniard plans to do with the young Englishman but there are several clubs interested in a loan deal. Although it is stated in the same report that Celtic wish to secure his signature on a permanent basis this winter.

It’s starting to get interesting…

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
