Video: An English view on Scottish Premiership’s broadcasting deal with Sky Sports

Interesting watch this one, and it extensively references an article by Conall McGinty on The Celtic Star. It’s hosted by an English football fan who lives in Scotland and loves Scottish football but also points out some very pertinent points about what’s wrong with our game – including an undersold television deal with Sky Sports who don’t actually show that many games?

Indeed since the current five year ‘exclusive’ deal with Sky Sports got underway for the Scottish Premiership, clubs’ own PPV has become a real thing with additional sums having to be forked out to Ross County, Hibs, Aberdeen and Motherwell already this season from supporters who haven’t got an away ticket yet don’t want to resort to illegal streams.

Celtic too have been selling PPV for recent league games at Paradise as the 60,000 seats have all sold-out. Very few Ross County fans would have been taking Celtic up on that offer on Saturday and you would suspect that any sales would have come from Celtic fans wanting to watch the game, although season ticket holders have had access all year to home league games via the Pass to Paradise.

Anyway it’s an interesting debate and Conall’s two articles on this subject from The Celtic Star in January are well worth another read. Here’s the video then the link to the article below and let us know what you think…
