Video: Ange Postecoglou lavishes praise on Celtic’s Captain

Ange Postecoglou has spoken to Celtic TV about his club Captain and seemingly evergreen midfielder, Callum McGregor. The Celtic skipper enjoyed a major role in the weekend’s return to domestic action at Pittodrie – sinking a ridiculously negative Aberdeen side with a wonderful long-range strike.

Back at the beginning of October, Callum sustained a nasty knee injury whilst playing for the Hoops in the UEFA Champions League group stage against RB Leipzig. It was a solemn night in Germany as we not only lost the game, but lost our midfield maestro and all-round general.

His recovery was thought to be extensive at first, with many thinking it wouldn’t be until after the New Year when we would see him back amongst the action for the Bhoys. However, as the manager has alluded to in this recent interview, Callum really does set his own targets and standards for everything. He used the World Cup break to work his socks off just to be in contention when the restart came.

Not only did he play the match, he scored the winning goal and lasted the entire 90 minutes plus stoppage time in a remarkable feat, even by his own very lofty standards. It was a game that has knocked the stuffing out of those on the blue side of the city. At 87 minutes, they would have been thinking it was all but over as the Dons had blocked us out up until that point.

Just when we needed him most though, Callum stood up to be counted and drove home the shot that would ensure we remained nine points clear at the summit of Scottish football. Ange has recognised the wonderful contribution from his Captain and you can watch the boss talk about Callum below.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
