Video: Bertie Auld The Fighter

This week we all learned of the sad news that Bertie Auld is suffering with dementia. As outlined in many of our articles over the last few days, Bertie is more than just a legend on the pitch. He is an incredible man off it and a wonderful Celtic supporter. A kind, humble and funny individual; Bertie is a fabulous human being worthy of all our support. However, there is a fighting side to Auld which will no doubt give him, his family and all of us some strength as he faces this battle.

He was infamously ordered off for lashing out at a Racing Club player during the infamous Battle of Montevideo. Whilst we couldn’t condone that, it is clear that Bertie has always been willing to stand up for himself and his friends. With the passing of over five decades, we can probably be permitted to watch this footage with a wry smile as Auld hunts down his opponent after suffering one assault too many!

Keep up the fighting spirit Bertie.
