Video – ‘Everyone knows how hard December is for us,’ Broony

SCOTT BROWN continued the theme coming out of the Celtic squad when he spoke to the Media earlier this afternoon ahead of tomorrow night’s trip to Edinburgh to play Hearts in the Scottish Premiership. Three points will see Celtic increase the lead at the top of the table to five points and then it’s a matter of sitting back on Friday night and seeing how the Rangers cope with the pressure of falling behind in the title race when they face a confident Hibs side at Easter Road.

The Celtic captain backed up the points that his midfield partner Callum McGregor made earlier.

“Everyone knows how hard December is for us,” Broony told the Media, as reported by the official Celtic site. “We play a lot of games and the squad needs to be used wisely. At the end of the month we get the winter break but we’ve got four huge games before then. We need to make sure we try and win every single one of them.

“The manager wanted strength in depth in every position and that’s what we’ve got just now. We have Leigh (Griffiths) coming back and Lewis (Morgan) is playing up front so we’ve been chopping and changing in that department as well as the other positions.”

Broony also had a special word of praise for Sunday’s Man of the Match, the ‘On My Days’ star Jeremie Frimpong who has made a fabulous start to his time in the Hoops.

“For someone so young coming in, he’s keen and has a lot of energy,” the Celtic captain said. “He’s incredible the way he runs up and down that line. His change of direction and speed against one of the quickest players in the league in Martin Boyle showed how quick the wee man is.

“He’s a lovely lad, he’s down to earth and when you come from a club like Manchester City, to be so chilled out and down to earth is great to see.”

And the skipper, who was suspended for last Thursday’s dead rubber match against Cluj, was able to sit back and view the future in Celtic’s midfield with Academy player Scott Robertson making his senior debut against Cluj and performing admirably.

“He’s got a lovely touch and he’s a great lad, very humble,” Broony said about the 18 year old Academy star. “He comes in and works really hard. I thought he did really well in Cluj. He dictated the play and puts himself about as well for being a young lad.

“He has to grow up and be a top-quality player himself. If I can help in any way I will do, but he’s going to have a lot more quality than I ever will and he’s shown that in Cluj already. The manager’s willing to give youth a chance. If they’re good enough they’re going to get a chance.”
