On this day in 1968, Celtic faced Rangers at Ibrox in the League Cup. The match resulted in a 2-0 victory for the Celts, who earned an early season boost with a magnificent performance on the afternoon.

Goals for the Hoops came through Lisbon Lion Willie Wallace; the first when he latched onto a loose ball after Jimmy Johnstone had tried to round the goalkeeper – the second in even easier circumstances as the goalkeeper completely missed a simple ball that ricocheted across the box.
