Videos – ‘I’m delighted to get Nir’s deal done,’ Neil Lennon, ‘I’m so happy,’ Bitton

EARLIER today Celtic announced that Nir Bitton has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal which will see him remain at the club until the summer of 2023. Bitton was of course a Neil Lennon signing for the club and he’s certainly benefited from his former boss returning to the club after Brendan Rodgers left hastily at the end of February.

“I’m delighted to get Nir’s deal done,” Lenny told Celtic TV this afternoon.

“I’m a big admirer of him. He had some injury problems, he’s overcome them, and since I’ve come in the door he’s been absolutely excellent.

“He’s always maintained that he wanted to stay, so we’re really pleased that we could get this bit of really good business done. He’s in the peak of his career, so hopefully we’ll get the best out of him in the next few years.

“It’s not just that Nir can play in different positions, it’s that he can play in those positions very well. I thought he had an excellent game against Hibs at the weekend, I thought he was brilliant at Ibrox, and also in Stockholm, before he picked up an injury.

“I think the new deal will settle him now, his family are secure now, and he can concentrate on his football. He’s a great player to have around the place, and he knows what it means to play here.”

The player himself is clearly delighted with his new three-and-a-half-year contract.

“As long as you’re at a club like Celtic, you don’t leave. When I arrived in 2013, I would never have thought I would stay here for 10 years. This is a big achievement for me and my family and I’m so happy,” the Israeli international said at today’s Media Conference, which you can watch below.
