‘We want to get Burke back,’ West Brom Boss shoots down Summer transfer talk

YESTERDAY we reported on Oliver Burke’s comments about loving his time sin Paradise and perhaps looking to remain at Celtic beyond his six month loan spell.

That was bound to generate a response from West Brom manager Darren Moore who was asked about the striker’s remarks at his own media conference yesterday.

Burke flopping at Celtic in a Charly Musonda sort of a way would spiral his career in a downward direction.

But after just two games the Oli looks like being a fine Celtic player and one that the supporters would love to see sign permanently, if things continue to go well for him.

Moore though shot those hopes down saying that Burke will be returning to West Brom in the summer.
Burke scored two goals in a 4-0 win over St Mirren on Wednesday night that left Celtic clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

“We want to get him back,” Moore said to the media. “If Oli is back in the shop window, it’s because he’s doing well for Celtic.

“But the magnificent thing is he’s our player. He’s being developed to be brought back here for West Brom.

“We hope to see him back here in the summer after a succession of games and goals. He’s in a challenging environment, working with an excellent manager and team.

“All this will be for the benefit of West Bromwich Albion.”

Burke has scored only one goal in 21 matches since joining West Brom from German side RB Leipzig for £15 million in August 2017. He has already doubled that tally for Celtic thanks to his brace midweek watched in person by Albion loans manager Deon Burton.

“We sent Deon up to watch him, so we’re keeping tabs on him,” Moore stated.

Any transfer would require West Brom looking to recover their £15million and that would almost certainly be too rich for Celtic to contemplate.

Burke of course is already talking about a desire to get a move to Celtic but with Bayo now training and impressing, Edouard back after injury and Leigh Griffths edging closer to s return to work, Celtic are reasonably well covered up front.

Timothy Weah is also doing well in his own loan spell and looks set to start in today’s match against Hamilton.
