“We want to put things right,” Ryan Christie promises to win Premiership Title back despite ‘Wantaway’ Speculation

Ryan Christie yesterday talked about wanting to put things right after the disappointment of losing the Scottish Premiership title for the first time in a decade yesterday. This was confirmed after Celtic failed to find the back of the net at Tannadice yesterday afternoon, despite having about a hundred efforts on goal.

The Scotland star of course is reported to be one of the Celtic Wantaways that Neil Lennon first told us about after the dreadful Champions League exit to Ferencvaros at the end of August. So how sincere he is talking about putting thinks right will be disclosed in due course. If you are planning on a summer exit, Ryan then you’d be better placed saying nothing at all rather than misleading supporters by leading us on the garden path.

“Every player, not just me, at the club is hurting and wants to put things right. Everybody has that champion’s mentality. That’s how we got to the position we have over the last four or five years,” Christie said to the media as reported by Daily Record, after the frustrating goalless draw against Dundee United.

“Everyone is desperate to have that feeling back again, so everyone has that hunger again. We want to put things right,” he added, before backing up what the Interim Celtic Manager had been saying about the need to achieve a batter mindset within the squad.

“John Kennedy touched on that and is trying to get that mindset back. That’s what champions do. It’s obviously not how we wanted the season to go. We started the season looking to defend our title and we’re all gutted,” Christie added.

“But we can only look forward now. It’s just a blip and we want to come back even stronger and go again. When you face a blip, you face a blip. You bounce back from it and try to get back on top again.

“That’s the mentality we need. Everyone is ready to bounce back.”

Yep, he’s going nowhere then…or it’s back to the garden path suspicion. Next up for Christie, Kennedy and Celtic is the visit of the new Champions theRangers who yesterday secured their first ever major honour since being founded in 2012 by Charles Green. Will the Celtic players be up for that one, one wonders?

“Absolutely. There is never a Glasgow Derby when you don’t have a point to prove. We will be up for it because we are desperate to get a result against them this season,” Christie stated but words count for very little when the actions have been so dreadfully disappointing this season. Can they beat theRangers?

“That’s what we will be looking to do and that can spur us on until the end of the season,” Christie said as he considered the 20 point gap – incidentally that is a 33 point swing since this time last year – and reckons that the gap is not a fair reflection. Really Ryan? Really?

“I probably wouldn’t say it’s a fair reflection, although, I’m a bit biased. It probably just comes to the amount of games where we have dominated and maybe not scored. And then we concede cheap goals at the other end and it comes down to fine margins,” he argued.

The news last week that the Scottish Cup is going to be played to a finish on 22 May gave the Celtic players a boost as they now have a piece of silverware that can be retained with two trophies already having left the building, heading to Perth and Govan.

“It’s our trophy to defend and all the boys are desperate to do that. The boys were buzzing when they saw the news that it’s going to be played out this season. It’s a great opportunity for us to end the season on a high,” Christie said. On his own situation – he has a year to run on his contract and if there has been any recent talk about a new deal being discussed then I’ve completely missed it. Yet he talks as if he’s staying to put things right. Why say that if you’re planning a move to the Premier League to join up with your pals Stuart and KT?

“For me personally, I’m not trying to be selfish,” Christie stated. “I’m just trying to go into every game and give my all. I’m trying to end the season as well as I can. I’ll just try to keep my own performances as high as they can be. That’s my target between now and the end of the season.”

Final word from Ryan Christie on the 0-0 draw yesterday. “It was a frustrating day. You come away wondering how you’ve not got on the scoresheet,” he said. “It wasn’t down to a bad performance.”

  1. We need a complete reset. Pull out the plug and start again. The team looked tired, disinterested and well by it’s sell by date yesterday, and throughout this season. Complete new backroom team, and players on the pitch. I have read that this is fraught with danger and shouldn’t be done. Ask yourself this, have you seen anything from that team, that make you believe we can win the Scottish Cup??? They couldn’t even beat Dundee Utd, to stop the zombies winning the league this weekend!!!! Please spend the money, do your homework and get in a management team that we deserve.
