“We’ve got a good group of bhoys,” Cameron Carter-Vickers on Celtic squad

Cameron Carter-Vickers declared after the Livingston match this weekend that the current Celtic squad is a good group and that he’s proud to be in there fighting with them all. The Hoops have lost their way a bit of late as we fell to successive defeats in the league campaign and let our main rivals back in the door. It’s been a poor few weeks and many have been questioning what is going on behind the scenes at Celtic Park.

However, if Cameron’s words are anything to go by, it would be safe to assume that we’re just going through a rough patch at this time for a confluence of reasons. There’s been key players missing for months now and at several points we’ve been without a number of them which has affected consistency. Added to this is the new style the boss is trying to implement as well as the poor recruitment in the summer which didn’t cover the players who departed and there’s a perfect storm.

In light of this, the USA international has moved to assuage any fears of a potential meltdown like a few seasons ago and rekcons we’re back in business after that win and clean sheet. After the game, he said: “I thought we played very well and in the first 30 minutes we could have scored three goals. Unfortunately we didn’t but we kept going and we got our reward in the end. It’s definitely a proud moment to make my 100th appearance and I’ve got to say that since I came here I’ve enjoyed my time. I feel that we’ve got a good group of boys. It doesn’t always go our way but we’re always looking to improve and win games of football, and I’m proud to be part of it.”

His partner in crime at the back, the much improved Liam Scales, was delighted to get on the scoresheet and revealed that now the players must maintain consistency in their game as they aim to grab that third title in a row. Speaking to Celtic TV alongside his influential teammate, the Irishman said: “It was a good ball in and I just managed to flick it on and it ended up in the back of the net,” he said, “but as Cam said, in the first-half we could have been two or three up.

“We showed good mentality to come out in the second half and really go and get those goals that we needed. It was comfortable after that and we could have got a couple more – their keeper made a few good saves – but we’ll take this result. We just need to keep the momentum going from this. The performance was good and that’s the level we need to be at every week and we’ll be taking good confidence from this game.”

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
