“When the Celts go up to lift the Scottish Cup,” Target Tynecastle, Sunday 29 May, “We’ll be there”

Celtic’s League Cup Final winner was scored by central defender Caitlin Hayes with a bullet of a header from a wonderful delivery from Sarah Harkes and that turned out to be the only goal of a game Celtic dominated from start to finish. The trophy was brought back to Paradise and placed in the trophy cabinet by Fran Alonso and his captain Kelly Clark and now The Celtic FC Women squad have their eyes set on winning the Scottish Cup for the first time in Celtic’s history to complete an historic cup double for the season.

Speaking to Celtic TV Caitlin Hayes said: “It’s an opportunity for the women’s game to be shown on a stage that’s bigger than what it’s on currently. Fingers crossed we can take care of Hearts and get to another cup final and fingers crossed we can do the shirt justice again and win another final.’

That video was recorded before Celtic’s 6-0 win over Hamilton on Sunday so now it’s all eyes for The Celtic FC Women’s team om Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final and the chance for Celtic to get to the final on Sunday 29 May at Tynecastle and hopefully to go on to complete an historic cup double this season. The goals from the win over Hamilton are shown below.

The Celtic centre-half, who scored that memorable winner in the League Cup Final against Glasgow City back in December is relishing the thought. “It would be out of this world to do it again. To play in another cup final is a privilege and hopefully we can get there and be able to look back on the season fondly.”

The Celtic FC Women manager Fran Alonso is equally as excited at that prospect. “It is one of the dreams we have for this season, but to do that we have to beat a very good team in the semi-finals in a very tough game, but we experienced it before Christmas and we want to repeat that. To make that final would be a dream come true.

“That would mean in one season we would double the trophies from all our history and would put our players in the history books forever, so it would be amazing. It’s something we are fighting for.”

Both semi-finals are being held on Sunday at Falkirk Stadium and somewhat annoyingly The Celtic v Hearts game kicks off at 12 noon, just as Celtic take on Old Firm Fc at Celtic Park where a win will all but guarantee the Scottish Premiership trophy will be coming back to Paradise. With this being a Bank Holiday weekend surely these Women’s Scottish Cup matches could have been played on Monday, or at least The Celtic v Hearts game?

Meanwhile three Celtic FC Women players were named in the inaugural PFA Scotland Women’s Team of the Year with League Cup hero Caitlin Hayes being joined by Celtic stalwart Chloe Craig and 30 goals and counting Charlie Wellings, congratulations to all three players.
