Willie Miller slates Celtic defending buts sees nothing wrong with Jota’s winner, unlike Pat Bonner

Ex-Aberdeen hero and club legend, Willie Miller, has come out and slaughtered the Celtic defence for their calamitous showing last night at Pittodrie. Celtic were cruising at half-time with two goals already on the scoreboard. That would not last though, as some poor decisions from set-plays allowed the Dons to draw level.

The two goals were really sloppy from Celtic, considering their recent form and ability to keep clean sheets. Now Miller has claimed that the Hoops’ defenders should be ’embarrassed’ by their display last night in the North East. Speaking to BBC Sportsound Miller said:

Aberdeen’s second goal from Lewis Ferguson

“It’s embarrassing for the opposition. I’m sorry, it’s embarrassing. I mean, how much time do they spend on the technical side of the game? How many people do they have scouting the opposition? How much footage do they actually have scouting Aberdeen this season? And yet, constantly, teams do not apply whatever they are seeing, on the field of play.

“Ramirez comes from the back to the front, it’s so simple to stop, it should be stopped, it shouldn’t happen. But thankfully for Aberdeen, they all go to sleep and they get the goal.”

Miller, incidentally saw nothing wrong with Jota’s winner for Celtic while former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner was screaming for an offside decision for Aberdeen. With friends like Bonner…

There’s no denying that it was disappointing the manner in which we lost both goals last night. Sometimes in football it’s important to do the basics right as a defender before anything else. Having thought we were past this sort of thing after a sustained period of dominance at the rearguard of the team, teams are bound to target it again moving forward. Livingston and theRangers away spring to mind as potential teams to test that theory.

Perhaps it is time for the long overdue return of the big Frenchman, Christopher Jullien. Jullien was usually always aerially dominant in a Celtic shirt but for a couple of mishaps now and then. He also posed a significant threat in the opposition penalty area, something we’ve still sadly been lacking from corner kicks and general crosses into the opposing team’s box.

With Raith Rovers at home in Scottish Cup duty on Sunday, is it finally time Chris Jullien made his long awaited return to first team action in the beloved Hoops? There will never be a better time to introduce him in this campaign.
