Women’s Scottish Cup – Celtic FC Women drawn against theRangers in semi-final

Holders Celtic FC Women have been drawn against theRangers in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup. In the other semi-final Spartans will take on Hearts. The two ties will be played over the weekend of 27/28 April at Hampden, and television will have their say before the order of the fixtures is settled.

The Glasgow Derby semi-final is a re-run of the recent League Cup semi-final which theRangers won while the sides also met in last season’s Scottish Cup Final which Celtic ran out comfortable 2-0 winners to retain the trophy. The sides last met earlier this month at Ibrox and the match finished 1-1 although Celtic dominated the play and really should have added to their tally to win the match.

Elena Sadiku will be looking to go one better in the semi-final and there’s also the two SWPL1 post split fixtures between the top two sides in the country one each side of the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.

The first meeting takes place on St Patrick’s Day, Sunday 17 March then in the return fixture on Monday 6 May, currently set for Broadwood Stadium, but more likely to be played at Ibrox.

Celtic have not stated whether theRangers will be given tickets for their supporters for the St Patrick’s Day match after Celtic fans were locked out of the recent match at Ibrox, with Celtic selling out the allocation. Some fable about the Green Brigade attending was the myth of an excuse, after theRangers asked Celtic to find their security costs for Ibrox.

There will be no such problem at Hampden and if the Scottish Cup Final from last year is anything to go by Celtic supporters should outnumber them substantially.

The Women’s Sottish Cup draw was made this evening at half-time in the Morton v Hearts game which is currently goalless. When that is over the draw for the Men’s Scottish Cup will take place with the winners of tonight’s tie joining Aberdeen, Celtic and theRangers.

Could we end up with a second Glasgow Derby Scottish Cup semi-final?
