7 Celtic stars, 2407 games and tonight, remarkably, it’s 500 not out for Scott Brown

CALLUM McGREGOR will make his 201st appearance for Celtic tonight, making him one of the most experienced players at the club. Other ‘veterans’ who have joined the 200 club include Leigh Griffiths who has made 202 appearances, Craig Gordon who is on 233, Emilio Izaguirre who has pulled a Celtic jersey on 258 match days and Mikael Lustig who has made 259 appearances.

Then there’s James Forrest the only member of Celtic’s very exclusive 300 club – the winger who we never say is ‘On Fire; because it’s been done to death, has played 323 games for Celtic.

There is of course one member of an even more exclusive club, Celtic’s 400 club but that will change tonight when Scott Brown passes through that elite group to the 500 Club. So far the Celtic captain has played for the club 499 times and assuming he plays tonight – which seems almost certain – then he will reach the incredible 500 appearance benchmark for Celtic.

When you think about it, that’s 7 Celtic stars who have played a total of 2407 games for the club.

McGregor, speaking in tonight’s Match Day programme, talks like the experienced pro- that he has become.

“It’s easy to dwell on disappointing results but we’ve also got the League Cup in the bag, our position in the league is in our hands, and we’ve now got European football after Christmas.

“We’ve obviously got some big games coming up in the next week, but if we come out of that well, we’ll be in a pretty good place going into the January break.

“Everything’s got to be positive coming out of the club, especially during this busy spell.”
