The next few weeks could be huge for John Kennedy’s coaching career. He’s been highly rated as part of the Celtic coaching set up for a while, but we may find out if he has aspirations to become a manager in his own right.
Even if we presume that he has a long term ambition to manage Celtic in the future, it’s realistic to think he would need to go somewhere else and prove himself as a manager before he would be considered for the gig.
It’s a tough one to think about just now when everything is going so well, but if we assume there will come a point in the future where Neil Lennon does move on, then appointing Kennedy might anger fans if it’s seen as the cheap option.

Kennedy has been heavily linked with the Hibs job in the past few days and it would be the ideal position for him. He would take control of a decent size club and still be able to use the vast knowledge of Scottish football that he’s built up over the years.
According to a report from the Daily Record, Kennedy has now overtaken Jack Ross as the bookie’s favourite to become the next Hibs boss. The report does go on to suggest that Lenny has issued a “hands off warning” but that hasn’t thrown the bookies off the scent.
It’s a huge choice for the former defender to make. Everything is going very well for Celtic just now, he’s been associated with the club for a long time and it should take something huge to see him leave.
Despite that, if he does have managerial ambitions then Paul Heckingbottom completely sucked the joy out of Easter Road in recent months, so expectations won’t be huge and he should get a chance to build his own team.
It would be a shame for him to leave, but if agent Kennedy could take a few points away from the Rangers then it might be the ideal situation for everyone.
