‘Amazing What a Bit of Love Can Do’, Forster on Moi

Fraser Forster has paid tribute to his fellow Southampton-loanee, Mohamed Elyounoussi, who has taken to life at Celtic like a duck to water. The Norwegian winger scored twice in Saturday’s Betfred Cup semi-final, which sets up a Celtic v Rangers in December.

Speaking to The Herald, the goalkeeper was full of praise for the former Molde attacker, despite his tough move to Southampton.

Forster knows how tough it is to be on the sidelines at Southampton watching other get games. Elyounoussi joined from Basel in 2018 for a deal in the region of £16 million.

“I am delighted for him. Obviously he had a tough year last year as well, it is amazing what a bit of love and confidence can for you. Ever since he scored that first goal he has not looked back. He keeps chipping in and contributing and that’s fantastic for us he is doing that.”

It is no surprise that Forster and Elyounoussi have been in brilliant form since returning to Celtic and subject to the affection of the support, teammates and management. Forster puts Moi‘s form down to this positivity.

“I think it is just a positive, multiplying effect. Last year he did not really play much football at all. He has come here and you need that run of games in the team, it’s hard to come in and be expected to do it from day one. But he’s come in, had a few 90 minutes under his belt and scored and had assists and his confidence can only grow and grow if he is doing that.

“I know more than anyone how hard it was for him last year. And he just looks like a completely different player.”

Elyounoussi is slowly becoming a fans’ favourite at the club and hopefully the performances continue – especially with the chance at silverware up for grabs at the start of December.
