Dedryck Boyata’s German struggles have continued after he was responsible for handing Union Berlin the victory in the first Berlin Derby for 42 years. The Belgian defender was penalised and the referee pointed to the spot, handing Union Berlin a 90th minute winner.
Having been initially ruled out, Boyata trained on his own on Friday before making a surprise appearance in the line-up on Saturday. Boyata went to block a shot from the oncoming attacker; however, once the shot was away, Boyata collided with Gentner – resulting in a penalty.
Sebastian Polter capitalised on Boyata’s tackle and gave the eastern Berlin outfit a famous victory whilst sending the home support wild.

The match was suspended on numerous occasions due to crowd trouble and the Union Berlin Ultras made their way onto the park to confront the Hertha players at full-time, only to be talked out of it by Union players.
Boyata apologised at full-time to the supporters after the decision lead to bragging rights in Berlin going to Union instead of Boyata’s Hertha.
“”I apologise to our supporters. These things happen in football. I didn’t try to foul him and it’s very disappointing.”
This is mental!
