Brendan Rodgers: Kris Boyd, talking ‘Jim White’, it’s big business for the Bookies

At the end of last year we discovered that BET365 founder paid herself £265m in 2017. That’s an astonishing £726,000 every single day. From that we can reasonably assume that these online betting companies are making huge sums of money.

This morning a few newspapers picked up on a Bookmaker pricing Brendan Rodgers up as the favourite to be the next manager of Leicester City. There is not even a vacancy at the East Midlands club at the moment but drop in Brendan Rodgers’ name into such a betting market and the Bookie knows that there will be substantial media coverage, in the newspapers, on radio shows, on television and online. Even some of the Celtic fans sites jumped right in this morning to highlight the story, one noting that it was worrying because the Daily Mail carried the story.

The argument that Stephen McGowan from that paper is well connected with the Celtic Board so there may well be something in it. Arms and Legs CSC.

Then Kris Boyd, who we seldom if ever pay any attention to, gets involved. He spoke to the trash radio station TalkSPORT to give his considered opinion and of course he’s got Brendan desperate to leave Celtic for a new challenge at Leicester.

Jim White, the Rangers supporting presenter, added his tuppence worth – listen below…

There’s your agenda. A dig at Celtic. Brendan is being lined up for the ‘bigger’ Leicester City job.

Stop and ask yourself why Stephen Gerrard isn’t mentioned for this non existent vacancy?

Has he not provided Brendan Rodgers with a real challenge? Is his side not sitting ‘joint top’ of the league? Did he not record a ‘fantastic’ win over Rodgers on 29 December? Did he not re-build his squad on a shoestring budget? Did he not have a great run, relatively speaking, in the Europa League?

The Bookie wants the publicity. It’s a big business and there’s money to be made from these stories gaining momentum. A Rodgers link to X, Y or Z story is a sure fired winner. That’s their game.

The media are thinking much the same thing and TalkSPORT play this game all the time. The secondary aspect comes in when personal agendas can fall into line with the principal objective. And if you have a preference for any club playing out of Ibrox it would be great news to see the back of Brendan Rodgers.

The Celtic sites are getting the hits too, but to achieve that they are helping the Bookie and the Rangers biased media and commentators. That’s hard to stomach.

For Jim White, Kris Boyd – who remarkably can say what he likes while remaining a player Kilmarnock, that photograph above makes them sick to the stomach.

“Brendan Rodgers, is HERE FOR TEN IN A ROW,” as the song says…
