‘Cal has been superb, having Broony back is great,’ Christie

ONE THING became clear today, with Tom Rogic out for at least 6 weeks and needing surgery of his knee, Ryan Christie is going to continue in his advanced midfield role for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to the latest edition of the Celtic View, Christie was keen to praise his midfield colleagues who he believes makes his job in the team much easier. He has been playing alongside Callum McGregor and skipper Scott Brown – who gave the entire club a huge boost by signing his new two year extension yesterday – and Christie is a huge fan of both.

“Cal has been superb for us – whatever position he’s been asked. When Broony was out earlier in the season, he had to drop into the holding role, and you saw his quality and his range of passing there.

“He’s a scoring threat too, and that’s two in two for him. Not just for me, I’m delighted for him, and scoring from midfield is always nice.

“He’s going from strength to strength right now, and it makes my job playing in midfield pretty easy. He’s got so many strengths, and he reads the game so well. The way he reads the game in the holding role and can break up play is fantastic.

“Right now, he’s at the top of his game.”

And Christie, like all of his Celtic team-mates greatly appreciate what their captain Scott Brown brings to the team.

“Having Broony back in the holding role is great,” Christie stated.

“He keeps pressure on team when they’re looking to get out, he’s relentless at getting the ball back and feeding it to us.

“It’s not the first-time people have written Broony off, and he always comes back and proves people wrong.

“When he was out earlier in the season, a few people questioned whether or not he’d make it back in, and it’s games like Wednesday night that prove otherwise.

“Since the break, he’s come back and has been superb.

“It’s important that when teams come to Celtic Park we’re relentless in our attack and keep teams under pressure. With that, you need somebody in the middle of the park who’s going to keep winning the ball back for you, and he does that probably better than anyone else,” Christie continued.

And Christie is delighted with the nw arrivals that have come into the squad, with Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah having already got heavily involved in the action and both have a couple for goals each to show for their early efforts in the Hoops.

“When you go into a transfer window, everyone wants new faces because that’s the excitement of it all. But we’re more than happy with the squad we’ve got right now – we’ve got such a confidence and a belief in each other.

“Obviously, the boys we’ve brought on, the likes of Burkey and Tim, have made a great impact so far, you’ve seen that already. We’ve got such a good core of players into this team,” Christie said.
