Callum McGregor signs long term Celtic deal, next up Boyata and Broony

CELTIC as expected announced this morning that Callum McGregor has agreed a new deal which will see him remain with the club until at least the summer of 2023.

“The 25-year-old midfielder, who is a succesful graduate of the Celtic Youth Academy, made his 200th appearance for the Hoops last weekend at Easter Road, and followed that up with his 201st outing in the 3-0 victory over Motherwell on Wednesday night, a victory which saw the Hoops return to the top of the Premiership table,” the official site stated.

“Callum made his first-team debut on 15 July, 2014, in a UEFA Champions League qualifier away to KR Reykjavik, marking the occasion with the only goal of the game. It’s one of 34 goals he’s scored for the Hoops so far, including memorable European strikes against Bayern Munich and Zenit St Petersburg, along with four Glasgow derby goals.

“He has won four Premiership titles, three League Cups and two Scottish Cups, and has been an integral part of the historic Double Treble success the club achieved under Brendan Rodgers.”

McGregor has played over 40 games for Celtic this season alone and along with James Forrest has been the most impressive performer. He has broken into the Scotland side too – former manager Gordon Strachan inexplicably was reluctant to play him alongside his six Celtic team-mates in the side at that time – maybe Seven would not have Benn Magnificent for the Scottish FA?

The tabloids had already been writing stories about McGregor being the target for lower level English sides. Today’s news will put an end to that.

Celtic have done an incredible job since the summer in signing up our current stars on new long term deals. There are two offers sitting on player’s tables (literally in the case of one) and if both agree to sign and stay at Celtic for the next number of years it will be incredible news.
