Celtic Academy Star Scott Robertson signs new three year deal

Celtic have started to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the international break to get some housework done in the shape of new contracts being agreed and the first one to report is the new three year deal that Scott Robertson signed today.

The new deal means that the midfielder will remain at the club until at least the summer of 2023.

The 19-year-old has been with the club for over a decade having progressed through the Celtic Youth Academy and into the first-team squad. Scott Robertson made his first team debut last season in the Romania in the final group stage match against our old pals Cluj in the Europa League and was a stand-out for Celtic in that game.

Robertson, who has been training with the first team since the players returned after lockdown, spoke to the official Celtic website today after signing his new 3 year deal with the club.
“I’m happy,” he said. “Happy to get the chance to try and break into the first-team over the next few years and, hopefully, show the fans what I’m about. This means over the next few years I can completely focus on playing football.

“It means a lot. It’s good to know that people around the club like what they’re seeing and, hopefully, I can keep impressing them.

“Every day I need to make sure I’m at it and show the coaching staff what I can do.

“It feels amazing to have had a chance to play in the first-team. I know the fans aren’t here and it’s not what it’s all about but just to do that in pre-season with the first-team boys has been brilliant.

“It’s been amazing for me to train with the first-team. I get to watch guys like Callum McGregor and Oliver Ntcham day-in-day-out and I can learn from them every day.

“It’s important to get used to training with these sort of players. It makes you more relaxed and means you can show you’re stuff on the pitch.”

With other stars from the Academy team either leaving or perhaps making it known that they’ll see out there current contract before heading elsewhere, it’s players like Scott Robertson who deserve to be in and around the first team.
