Celtic have confirmed that the date and kick-off time for November’s Premier Sports Cup/League Cup semi-final against St Johnstone, the holders and most successful club in Scotland last season. The match will be played on Saturday 20 November with a 5.15pm kick-off and it will be broadcast live on Premier Sports while almost certainly Celtic TV will show the game outside of Britain and Ireland.
Celtic have won the league Cup for four of the last five seasons as indeed is the case with the Scottish Cup. Yet is was the Perth club who ended up taking both these trophies up the A9 to McDiarmid Park.
Ange Postecoglou and his players will be determined to win it back and the first task is to knock-out the holders then sit back and see whether it will be the Battle of the Greens at the Final on 19 December or alternatively a Glasgow Derby against theRangers, who have never won a major cup competition since being formed by Charles Green in 2012.
More details on ticket information to follow when we have it. No doubt there will be some elaborate scheme to allow all the 2/4 ‘lucky’ ballot entrants to go up to 3/5 while others will make it to 0/5.
Or was that all down to Dom?
With St Johnstone traditionally having the smallest support of the four teams in these semi-finals that should mean there’s good news for Celtic fans in terms of the allocation and we’d expect Celtic to have effectively three ends of the ground at Hampden.
