It’s not usually good news if an outcasted player stalls on a move away, but the situation with Jack Hendry could play into Celtic’s hands.
He’s been very impressive in Belgium during his loan spell with Oostende so he should have a few options next year, while it also makes you wonder if he could still have a future at Celtic Park.
His main problem was that he looked much happier when he had to defend rather than building from the back in a dominant team, so it could explain why he’s looked brilliant for Dundee and Oostende – two sides where there’s not a pressure to win every week.
A report from The Sun has indicated that the Belgian side have an agreement so sign him for £1.75m, while their President has even spoken publicly about wanting to get that deal signed up.

They go on to quote a report from The Daily Mail where Hendy has spoken about the potential move and how happy he’s been with his form, but he doesn’t seem to be willing to commit to completing the permanent move just yet.
This could present an opportunity for Celtic to either give him a chance to prove himself or they could look to spark a bidding war, so it’s a good situation to be in.
It’s common for impressive players in Belgium to generate interest from the bigger sides in the league while Dutch and German clubs may also be aware of his impressive form.
Finances are tight in the game just now but Celtic need a serious rebuild this summer, so maximising the fees of players like Hendry should allow them more room to manoeuvre in the summer market.
