Celtic Reaction to Ajer’s Exit Signal: Only Want Away who Emerges with any Real Credit

Kris Ajer has stated as we reported earlier today, that he believes that it is best all round if he leaves Celtic this summer and given he has only a year left on his contract, has no plans to sign an extension and was encouraged to stay last summer by Neil Lennon for one final push towards the Ten, then there is no doubt at all that the Norwegian defender will be sold this summer.

The only questions remaining are where he will end up amid interest from top leagues in England, Germany and Italy.

Newcastle appeared to be Ajer’s favoured destination but their interest is on a bargain but basis, perhaps less that half of the transfer value Celtic would have received last summer. Norwich City are now looking at taking the bidding beyond £10m and with Leverkusen also looking to shop in the East End of Glasgow again after being delighted with the capture of Jeremie Frimpong in January, the fee Celtic receive could be pushed further upwards. AC Milan are also long-time admirers of the Norwegian.

The claim in one of the red-tops today that they broke the story of the Norwich interest in Kris Ajer several weeks ago (their report was a week after you read it on The Celtic Star, after one of our contacts down south gave us an exclusive heads-up).

Here’s some Celtic Supporters’ feedback on the news that Kris Ajer is set to leave Celtic this summer. Hard to disagree with anything that’s being said below…

“I know he’s being honest and up front about it all but saying something along the lines of “I’m happy at Celtic but you never know how things turn out in football” sounds a bit more respectful, it also helps Celtic with negotiations,” Barry.

“Might join a team that will play him in his right position,” Althetim.

“Good guy, been a great player for us. Good luck to the big guy,” CG44.

“To be honest, he’s stayed longer than others with his ability would have. He’s been great for us but he needs to look after his own career and that requires a move away. Besides, who would want to stay at the club with the current situation?” Bhoy in Red.

“No point in keeping him if he doesn’t want to be here. Developing young players and selling them on needs to be the model so can’t get too attached,” Chris McGraw.

“Also shows he wants the Club to get some sort of fee for him and potential sell-on clause instead of the Club getting nothing.. would love him to stay to be honest but him moving and taking the next step in his career is the right decision,” Christopher Sneddon-Murdoch.

“I think Ajer will go to the top. We will see him in the later stages of the Champions League in the near future. Pasta Mick.

“We’ll miss him big time,” Odsonne Jedward.

“He’s the only want away who had any real credit with how he conducted himself. Christie, Eddie and Ntcham….”Southdownbhoy.

  1. I hope Celtic have a large percentage on the sell on fee, we could have made a fortune with Virgil
Everyone seems to have a 50% sell on fee especially the players Celtic buy
