Celtic star Carl Starfelt provides injury update

Carl Starfelt became an unfortunate casualty of international football mid-week, when he had to be stretchered off the field of play in a UEFA Nations League match for Sweden against Slovenia. The big defender looked to be in real discomfort and could not hide the pain he felt as he was assisted when leaving the pitch.

Many have been fearing the worst as Starfelt appeared to be clutching his hamstring when lying on the ground. This was confirmed post-match when the big Swede gave an interview with mainstream media in Sweden confirming it was the case. This was relayed by several media outlets in this country soon after, which had us all shaking our heads in disbelief at yet another malady of this sort.

The centre-back – who overcame a shaky start to life in a Celtic jersey to create a formidable partnership with USA international Cameron Carter-Vickers – has taken to social media to give everyone a small update on how things are going. He did not go into specifics but rather wanted to reveal how proud he was at making his first competitive start for his native Sweden. He said:

“Happy to have made my competition debut for Sweden. Unfortunately it ended with an injury keeping me away from upcoming internationals. Time to recover, see you next season.”

The fact he has said see you next season and references his personal recovery suggests the Scandanavian might be out for a good while yet unfortunately. His injury does present a problem but also opportunity for anybody courageous enough to step up to the mark and take full advantage of the current defensive situation during pre-season.

In the meantime we’ll eagerly await Carl’s return to the side and wish him all the best for a quick recovery from his hamstring injury.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
