Derby day dismay as Celtic Park limited to 500 spectators from Boxing Day

Reports from the media  have confirmed Celtic fans’ worst nightmares that the club are only able to host 500 fans from Boxing Day onwards. This means that the Glasgow derby against theRangers will be held in front of another dwindling crowd for the third season running.

Celtic lost 1-0 at their bitter rivals ini August in front of a sell-out crowd at Ibrox, with fans undeniably playing a part in the loss.

The return fixture was set to take place at Paradise on the 2nd January, with 60,000 Bhoys ready to take to the stands to roar their team on after a week of festive fun.

But according to the Daily Record, Nicola Sturgeon will cap matches at 500 people from the 26th December onwards – meaning once again, Celtic will be limited in what they can do against Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men.

The report states that a source told them First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will announce the limit for outdoor events for three weeks, effectively meaning sports matches are fan free for the period.

One metre physical distancing will also be required.

It is another conspiracy that will no doubt spark debate amongst football fans galore in Glasgow – although there is more faith than ever that Celtic can upstage their enemy.

  1. Why wait to boxing day if they think it’ll make a difference to the numbers of people affected by covid? maybe because the rangers have a home game tomorrow?
