Despite the best efforts of the PLC, The Celtic Trust will hold them accountable

Celtic’s result yesterday against Hungarians, Ferencvaros was a great victory. However, the Celtic support gained another crucial victory ahead of next month’s AGM. The Celtic Trust has been hot on the trail of the PLC after a disastrous ten-in-a-row bid; failure to relieve Neil Lennon from his post early enough; an unprofessional pursuit of Eddie Howe; and general incompetence in terms of structure and strategy at the highest level at Celtic Park.

The Trust has been calling on shareholders in Celtic Football Club to back proposal’s regarding all the aforementioned worries and concerns relating to the governance of our beloved Club. For too long now, the PLC at Celtic have been encouraged to have carte blanche on all matters relating to the football club. This, in part, is due to a lack of opposition to the Directors and majority shareholder, Dermot Desmond.

Now, regardless of whether or not you see eye-to-eye with the The Celtic Trust on everything, it is essential that we as a support speak truth to power – as and when required. At the crux of this is a dichotomy between those “who have” and those “who have not” in the Celtic Family. For some reason Mr. Desmond and Co. think we should be locked out of the room like small children; seen and not heard from unless money is to exchange hands.

Are you not sick of this? I know I am.

This is textbook stuff from Celtic’s hierarchy too – moving the AGM a month earlier so as to put obstacles in the way of any proposals concerned fan groups may have. I believe this to be especially uncomfortable in relation to a certain Resolution 12 that the PLC thought they had quashed in 2019. Sorry chaps, it’s here to stay. The insalubrious agreement that had been proposed to take place, which undermines the integrity of the game in this country must not, and cannot be left unpunished.

The then Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell in answering a question from the floor at a previous Celtic AGM that he had never seen the secretive 5 Way Agreement, which allows the new club playing out of Ibrox to operate under a different set of rules to the other clubs. If that is true then surely he has to be held accountable for negligence, if it is untrue then he should answer for that and it is almost certainly a resignation matter.

We are currently beneficiaries of the most devious and underhanded Board of Directors anywhere in football. Yet, despite this unequivocal truth, we could still make life as uncomfortable as possible for these people. It’s about time they started answering the questions that the most important group of people associated with Celtic FC have – the Supporters.

What is particularly galling is that all if this underhand activity, designed to silence the Celtic support was taking place while oder 50,000 supporters were busy attending the Tuesday afternoon match against Ferencvaros in the Europa League.

I will be looking forward to this year’s General Annual Meeting, with much anticipation and encouragement. This unfathomable sequestration cannot continue, if Celtic are to flourish for generations to come.

Your Club needs you!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
