Don Robertson will oversee this weekend’s game in the City of Discovery, with David Roome and Ross Nelson serving as his assistants. Greg Aitken will be manning VAR responsibilities, supported by Graeme Leslie who will take up the role as Assistant VAR from Clydesdale House.
Saturday’s Premiership outing between Dundee United and Celtic will mark Robertson’s sixth occasion officiating a Celtic game this season. He previously refereed the champions’ Premiership flag day opener against Kilmarnock in August, which saw Rodgers’ men triumph 4-0.
His next assignment was overseeing Celtic’s 6-0 victory over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park the following month, followed by refereeing the Hoops’ hard-fought 1-0 victory at Pittodrie, secured by a late goal from Reo Hatate.
In the most recent two matches Robertson has officiated as the man in the middle, the soon to be four-in-a-row Scottish champions have dropped five points.
Celtic’s 3-0 defeat to theRangers at Ibrox in January was their first league loss of the season, and then the 38 year-old overseen a thrilling 3-3 draw between Celtic and Tony Docherty’s Dundee at Dens Park less than two weeks later.
Celtic know that a single point will clinch their fourth straight Scottish Premiership title. They are also chasing another domestic treble [a sixth in nine years], having thrashed St Johnstone 5-0 at Hampden on Easter Sunday. Next month, the Hoops will face Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final.
Celtic’s most recent visit to Tannadice in December ended in a goalless draw due to suffering with several illnesses from the squad. With Dundee United chasing that third spot which would guarantee European group stage football next season, Celtic will most likely have to work hard to confirm their 55th league championship.
Paradise Party on Saturday?
As it’s an early kick-off on Saturday (12.30pm) there will be plenty of time for the team and the travelling support too to get back down the road to Paradise for an early evening title party at Celtic Park, provided of course that we get something from the game.
It makes perfect sense for Celtic to open up the stadium if we win the league at Tannadice earlier in the day
