Highlights from Celtic FC Women’s Magnificent Seven

Celtic TV this afternoon released the highlights from the 7-0 victory over Spartans at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Other than the disappointing defeat against theRangers in October, Fran Alonso’s side have a perfect record domestically this season and with just one game ahead of the transfer window opening – that’s away to Hearts on Sunday – the opportunity is there for the Celtic Board to back Fran Alonso and propel the side onto our first ever Scottish title.

Alonso has delivered back-to-back Scottish Cup wins – that’s Celtic first two Scottish Cup wins ever – and he also won the League Cup for the first time in a decade for Celtic. The highly rated Spanish coach came within a minute of winning the SWPL1 title last season, and we all know what happened in the last moments of that game at Ibrox where Glasgow City walked in a goal.

Fran Alonso wants to win the title and there’s even a chance of a treble this season but in his heart of hearts he will know that his squad needs strengthening. There were reports at the weekend that Alonso is wanted for a job in Mexico but that is merely speculation, however the budget at Celtic – the third biggest in the SWPL and around half of the budget available to Jo Potter at theRangers.

With the club spending significant money on the redevelopment at Barrowfield for use by the women’s team and the Celtic Academy, it makes sense to establish the side as the dominant force in women’s football in Scotland. Barrowfield will have the best facilities in the Scottish game, and with the best squad and manager that should be more than possible.

The core of this current side is decent, to say the least. Have a look for yourselves and enjoy the magnificent seven against Spartans.

  1. Could you please stop repeating the LIE that the Huns let City win , its utter nonsense easily disproven and unnecessary , why not point out the real grievances of disallowed goals and penalty decisions not given against the pair of them , that would have seen us crowned rightful champions , Hail hail .
