“It’s a hard one to take because there’s only one football team trying to win that match”, Callum McGregor

After a bitterly disappointing result that robs Celtic the opportunity to go ahead in the SPFL table, Callum McGregor spoke to Celtic TV when the match against Livingston ended today.

McGregor and his teammates just couldn’t find the cutting edge to take the lead against a side that were determined not to participate in a football match. The Captain said: “Yeah, like you said it’s a disappointing result. It’s a hard one to take because there’s only one football team trying to win that match.”

“You know we had enough chances to win the game. To be fair to them they set-up well, defended well, defended their box well and closed the gaps we were looking to play in. I still think we done enough to win the game. That’s the bit that’s hard to take.”

On the question of the change of penalty taker, McGregor was assertive in his assessment. The player said: “No, no. It’s all worked out before. So, that’s the plan. You know if Giorgos was on the pitch, it’s him. If not, it was Josip. So there’s no debate about that.”

McGregor also insisted the team must pick themselves up after today’s deflating result, with Ferencvaros up next on the agenda. He added: “It’s important we don’t dwell on it too much. We’ve been on a good run. We’ve played some great football and got some great results. It’s disappointing. We’ll learn from it, we’ll look at the game and see where we can try to create more chances. Again, I think we did enough to win the game. So it’s just a case of keeping everyone together, recovering well. We’ve got two massive games next week as well. So we need to get back at it.”

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. Perhaps, when the keeper takes the first hundred crosses easily, you might try something different.
“The definition of insanity is trying the same thing a hundred times and expecting a different result!”

  2. I hate to say it but most ‘top ‘Premier League teams throughout Europe would have beaten them. We aren’t even close to that. Sad!

    • Like what? We’ve known we’re not one of the top teams in Europe for donkey’s years.

  3. We had a chance to get to the top of the league with a last minute penalty from a referee that not only gives us nothing but seems to enjoy it and sadly our picked penalty taker decides a very little run up and hardly any power in his shot not far away from the keeper will be enough.
