Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, East Fife and the KDM Evolution Trophy

JSP and Osmand in the Celtic B side playing East Fife in the KDM Evolution Trophy is further proof of Celtic board’s unhelpful interference in football matters…

Michael Nicholson smugly shrugged his shoulders after being confronted about Brendan Rodgers ‘claims’ that players were signed without his say so, and yet another perfect example of this ‘claim’ was laid bare in last night’s 5-3 defeat against East Fife.

Stephen McManus’s side slumped to a 5-3 defeat at East Fife in yet another disappointing display from the Celtic B Team, this time  in the KDM Evolution Trophy match against East Fife

I’m not here to preach about the result as winning at youth level or B level is not the main goal, development of players is the main objective, and present in last night’s line up were two summer signings Callum Osmand and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey who haven’t had a sniff of first team action since the start of the campaign.

Callum arrived as a highly regarded player after impressing in the EPL reserve league with Fulham, similar to Jahmai who was player of the year at that level for Man City, and unlike Callum had sampled first team football with City in the EPL and also in the Champions League.

But both players have been regularly over looked by the Irishman so far, providing yet more proof, if you need any that both players were signed over the head of the manager, or as he Brendan termed it himself: ‘club signings’.

Dear  knows what Callum must be thinking, having being touted as a future star only to be thrown into surroundings such as Bayview, or Jahmai who was sent up here to aid with his ‘development’…not playing for Celtic in the Champions League (no laughing at the back) but for the Celtic B team conceding five goals in a Friday night cup-tie against East Fife.

Of course, it’s not the fault of the young Celtic players, but it is yet another example of the Celtic board’s interference in football related matters.

What must Manchester City make of this?

  1. This will only harm Celtic in the future, especially with loan deals, when other clubs / players / agents witness how Celtic treat players to the detriment of their future development.
Shame, as recently Man City has proved a good source of talent.

  2. Making nonsense claims to suit an agenda more like?
Rodgers wanted 5 CBs within his squad building process.
Pusey was bought in, which allowed for Welsh to go out on loan.
The CB positions will be dominated by CCV, Scales and Trusty, if all 3 are available.
Our 20man SPFL match day squad has consisted of 3 CBs to date, this despite of the injury concerns CCV and Murray both have.
So any criticism should be directed at Rodgers for the decision making taken by himself?
Personally don’t believe it exists within how the structure of the squad is formed at present imo?

Osmand is a different story, with only being 1 of 3 looking for a striker role.
Again our attacking options remains at 7, despite Maeda and Yang possibly looking at there careers elsewhere?
Even now it remains unclear as to who will actually fill the 6 positions within a 20man SPFL squad, such is the unbalanced structure as it currently is?

So the question still remains as to what is potentially going to happen in January?
Will Osmand and Shin be given more opportunities if Maeda and Yang should move on?
Certainly not the easiest time to year to be looking for attacking options.

So being prepared better for January is nothing to be moaning about, especially with false claims imo?
Rodgers lack of giving youngsters opportunities is still in operation, especially as he regards the experience factor so highly.
How do you gain experience without game time available, especially when those not playing well, retain there positions so easily, despite form?

  3. Our academy/development system is an embarrassment. Appreciate we get money from other clubs for a lot of the boys we develop but that’s not what it should be for. Maybe the likes of JSP and Osmand aren’t that great anyway given that result. Back four lets in 5 and Osmand doesn’t score. Maybe not in big squad for a reason.
Same people (old pals/bhoys) been running this shambles for years – do they have annual performance reviews ? Now they have an expensive new Barrowfield – do we keep doing the same things ? Get hold of the best Scottish talent , have experienced new specialist coaching and have first team squad appearance guarantees.
We are currently 17th in the cup tournament and 8th in the Lowland league. Either do teh B team thing properly or scrap it.
