Jamie Vardy has been mentioned once again over potentially joining Celtic…
The English striker is fresh off of scoring against former Hoops’ boss Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham Hotspur team yesterday afternoon, and former Rangers star Craig Moore spoke of him when talking prospective Kyogo replacements.
Kyogo – “The best since Larsson”
Postecoglou’s fellow Aussie was of course an arch-rivals back in the day and was tormented over and over again by the King of Kings, Henrik Larsson. Furuhashi had been viewed by the majority as “the best since Larsson” and many have wondered why the club have decided to cash in on the Japan international at this current juncture, considering the massive match against Aston Villa awaiting the club this week.
Vardy’s name is one that was automatically mentioned when Brendan Rodgers returned north of the border after his time at Leicester City came to an end. The Englishman has been a key focal point for the Midlands outfit over the years in the Premier League and it was no different under Rodgers when he replaced Claude Puel back in February 2019.
“Kyogo’s goals are consistent and they are regular”
The now 38-year-old helped the Carnlough man’s team to an FA Cup and Community Shield, whilst propelling Leicester to a place in the top six two-years running. Moore spoke about the former Fleetwood man on the Go Radio Football Show, saying: “Kyogo’s goals are consistent and they are regular. He is perfect for the way that Celtic play. He will be a big loss. There’s no doubt about that.
“Will Celtic still be able to finish the back end of the season in a strong positive manner? Or, do they tail off a little bit and then in the off-season, the conversations are a little bit different? You talked about it earlier and maybe a top-notch player coming in on loan, or something like that. I haven’t watched every game, but is Vardy playing every single week down the road? He has seven goals and is 38. Brendan has worked with him.”
Board could sanction a short-term loan deal
The same sort of idea had been pitched by Moore’s fellow Go Radio pundit, Andy Walker, who had suggested that the Hoops Board could sanction a short-term loan deal for a big name from down south to cover the team, at least until we can get Kyogo’s longer-term replacement in the summer transfer window.
That’s purely conjecture and hearsay at this point though and nobody knows for sure what the club is planning. As always though, it has to be the right move – especially halfway through a season.

Ploughing money into wages for Jamie Vardy for a few months to cement some goals in the run in isn’t as ridiculous an idea as I first thought when I read the article. He’d be easily capable of chipping in a good contribution, but with caveats.
Would he want to come?
Would he play every game, every minute?
Would he disrupt or help Ida’s development?
Would he play “the system”.
Not sure about any of that.
And from the club/board angle – it’s not going to win financially or win over the majority of fans I would suspect.
