Celtic’s afternoon unravelled as they slipped to a 3–1 defeat at Celtic Park, completely collapsing in the second half, a theme that has defined Wilfried Nancy’s tenure.

The hosts had looked on course early when Yang Hyun-jun opened the scoring before, but a defensive and goalkeeping disasterclass after half-time proved decisive. Goals from Youssef Chermiti and Mikey Moore turned the contest on its head and sealed the points for theRangers.

Attention quickly shifted to Schmeichel’s role in the outcome, particularly for Moore’s effort, with pundits Neil McCann and Sutton both suggesting the experienced keeper failed to deal with the situation as he should have.

“That man for me there makes a big error,” said McCann. “I think he should save it.” Sutton then added via Sky Sports: “Mikey Moore, not been in the game. I think you’re right, Neil. Kasper Schmeichel has had a shocker there.”

Celtic supporters are now pretty much universal in their thoughts that Nancy should be sacked. However, there seems to be no appetite from the Celtic board to admit yet another catastrophic error.

Speaking post-match, Nancy said: “We are together with the board. When we lose, when someone loses, the confidence is going to be low. It’s clear. But we have also many things that I can show, and we will discuss that with the players, that the confidence could be high.”

“And now it’s all about finding a balance with the details. This game today, was about details. So we can concede goals. We conceded so many goals, and the goal that we conceded, we know that we can do better.”

“And yes, we lost again, and nobody is pleased with that because of what we did, because we deserved better. But at the end of the day, details and we lost again.”
