Selling Kyogo to Rennes in January is proving to be further proof of Celtic’s ability to cash in on players at the right time, for the best possible price…

It seems Kyogo Furuhashi is finding out the hard way that life isn’t so much rosier post Celtic as his career at Rennes seemingly takes yet another nosedive with reports that he will now offloaded this summer after dropping to sixth choice striker being two youth players.
Kyogo is reportedly on £45k a week at Stade Rennais FC
Our former Japanese talisman decided to take the plunge and make what will most likely be his last big move when he opted to jump ship to France with Ligue 1 side Rennes in January. The deal was believed to be worth £10 million to the club with the player personally benefiting with a weekly salary to the tune of £45,000.

Unfortunately for Kyogo it’s gone rather pear shaped in a playing sense as he’s struggled for game time at the club who languish in 12th place in Ligue 1. Things got worse for Kyogo as he seen the manager who signed him relieved of his duties, and the man who has come in to take charge doesn’t seem to rate the Japanese striker, with a summer move seeming almost inevitable.
It doesn’t paint a great picture for Kyogo
Whilst it doesn’t paint a great picture for Kyogo, it once again proves that Celtic have a great knack of knowing when to cash in on a player when their stock is high. We signed Kyogo for £4.5 million at his peak and got three and half great years from him before moving him on for £10 million just a week or so after his 30th birthday.

Clever business dealing from Celtic
That represents clever business dealing from the club. We give the player a great window to impress, and greatly benefit from his qualities, before making a decent profit to reinvest in the team. It’s what our transfer model is all about, and further proof that it works effectively and efficiently.

Kyogo wanted to leave Celtic
Kyogo wanted to leave to join a side in a top five league and was given the chance by Celtic when Rennes met the asking price. What happens thereafter isn’t really Celtic’s concern and it’s highly unlikely that Celtic would be interested in a cut price deal of just £3.5m for Kyogo to return in the summer. That ship has sailed.
