Lennon ‘Happy’ With Squad But Business to be Done

Neil Lennon has stated that he is ‘happy’ with his squad after sealing Soro’s switch to the Scottish Champions. The Ivorian midfielder is the second arrival this window for Lennon’s side following striking reinforcement Patryck Klimala.

Lennon spoke to the media conference ahead of Celtic’s trip to Perth tomorrow evening but reflected on January by saying his 9-in-a-row chasing side are stronger now.

“We’ve done two good bits of business and if it stops there, then great.

“I’m pretty calm about things. There are only four days left and it’s a very difficult thing to do in January.

“We’ve got a couple of good players in and streamlined the squad a bit. Klimala will add firepower and pace to the attack and Soro will bring strength to the midfield. So we are definitely stronger.

“I have a great squad, real quality in it. If there’s something available that might catch our eye and is affordable, we might look at it. But at the moment it’s very quiet. If I don’t do anything else, I’ll be happy.”

Whilst the message is somewhat downbeat for the Celtic support, it suggests that the club have targets and are waiting to see if they should become available – for example, Filip Benkovic at Leicester.

When asked about the possibility of bringing the 22-year-old defender to Celtic for a second loan spell, Lennon was coy but he admitted that he was looking to bring in one or two new faces.

“I only worked with Filip for a short time, but I know he had a good impact here last season.

“Hopefully, we’ll be looking to bring one or two in this week.”

Benkovic Update – Lennon and Rodgers Open to Celtic Return

Rodgers confirmed that should he succeed in his attempt to sign a central defender then Benkovic will be allowed the opportunity to leave the club on loan.

Despite it not being Victor Wanyama, Benkovic would be a welcome return to Celtic this season and hopefully a deal is still there to be done. It would appear that Celtic recalled Stephen Welsh to provide cover for the defenders should Lennon fail in his attempts to bring in a defender.
