Celtic’s Honduran international winger Luis Palma has been linked with a January move to the United States…
Palma has failed to make the last three Celtic match day squads and seems to have dropped down the pecking order at Celtic behind the likes of Nicolas Kuhn, Daizen Maeda, James Forrest and Yang.
The dirty side of the game
On Sunday evening Just an Ordinary Bhoy discussed Palma’s position at Celtic on The Celtic Star and sure enough that appears to have been bang on with well informed Celtic writer David Friel at Scottish Sun today reporting that moves are now afoot for a January exit. (Friel used to work at Celtic View).
Palma’s ability is not in question, it’s the other side of the game that is necessary in this Celtic team under Brendan Rodgers, that he is found wanting in. The player has discussions with the manager about this in the summer but to no avail and it now looks like a transfer would be in everyone’s best interests.
Report lacks specifics but signals intent
And while today’s report is lacking in detail on possible destinations it does nevertheless signal the intent for a deal to happen, with Friel also talking up Brendan Rodgers looking at a replacement.
Luis Palma joined Celtic from Greek side Aris in the 2023 summer transfer window and featured prominently last season under Brendan Rodgers. He was a signing made by the club rather than the manager who had little involvement in the recruitment at that stage.
Palma’s ten goal contribution last season
Palma’s ten goal contribution last season was decent enough but as the system that Rodgers wants the team to play has bedded in, it has become clear that it doesn’t really suit the Honduran’s game.
The player has a decent profile in the United States thanks to his international performances with his national side and Palma also as a youth player, starred for Real Monarchs, Real Salt Lake’s feeder team.
Palma starred in Celtic’s summer tour of USA
During Celtic’s successful pre-season tour in the United States, Luis Palma was a star attraction with so many Hondurans turning up to cheer on their hero. That level of popularity may not have gone unnoticed in the MLS.
