There were a lot of Celtic fans who actually welcomed the signing of Shane Duffy in the summer and he actually looked like he would be a good addition.
He was supposed to be rock solid in the air and nobody would get past him, while he would also be a weapon from set pieces so you could see why he was brought in.
Unfortunately he’s just completely immobile so he’s easily exposed and he actually looks like a weak link, so it’s not a surprise that he’s lost his place in the team.

There are suggestions that Celtic are covering his full £40k per week salary so he has to be deemed as an expensive flop at this point, so it’s almost impossible to see a situation where he comes back next year.
Stephen Welsh played in his place today and he looked solid on top of scoring the opening goal of the game, so there are plenty of fans who want to see him play on a regular basis between now and the end of the season:
Young Welsh MotM for me. Highlights how bad Duffy really is.

Welsh delivering the sort of tough but fair challenge I’d thought Duffy was here to perform.
Welsh having a cracking game

Welsh’s performance today emphasises the absolute lunacy in our managers continued persistence with Duffy during a nightmare period.

If Duffy starts over Welsh again, we riot.

Welsh > Duffy 🤝

Not rocket science that the partnership of Ajer and Welsh is better than the partnership of Duffy and Bitton. Just surprised it’s taken Lennon this long to figure it out

Why has it took until February for Welsh to replace Shane Duffy? Should have happened months ago.

Great header from Welsh said it last week get him in ahead of that bomb scare Duffy #CelticFC #CELMOT

There’s not really any point in starting Duffy over Welsh in the remaining league games if he’s not going to be kept on next season, so Celtic might as well give the youngster a solid run of games so they can see what they have ahead of next year.
