Chris Sutton was about as dejected as the rest of the Celtic support on Tuesday night, when the full-time whistle went inside the Allianz Arena…

The Englishman was covering the game for Sky Sports in the studio alongside Julian Warren and several other guests who were all doing different matches.
When the final whistle went, Sutton was effusive in his praise for Celtic and claimed that sometimes in football, it’s better to be lucky than good – claiming that’s what Bayern were on the night. Immediately after the match, he said: “Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good – and that’s what Bayern Munich were this evening. I’ve got to say, in terms of Celtic away performances in the Champions League, over the last 25 years, that was up there with one of the best. You know the mighty Bayern Munich.

“They had real control in the game. They defended brilliantly to a man. The back four stayed intact. McGregor was excellent in the centre of the park. They just maybe faded, as we expected they would in the second-half. But that is a real sickener. The nature of the goal. The save from Schmeichel and Davies – he’s getting a little bit lucky. And Vincent Kompany, blimey! How jammy can he get?! How jammy can Bayern Munich get?!”

The former Hoops striker pondererd how Rodgers and his troops would be feeling, knowing that they had multiple chances in front of goal, adding: “Brendan Rodgers, how will he view this and the Celtic players? They know they had opportunities earlier on in the game. They really should have taken them. This is a real sickener for Celtic this evening. They can be proud of that performance.”
