Pressure mounts on Nicholson in last few days of transfer window

Pressure has once again intensified on Celtic chief executive Michael Nicholson following renewed demands for his resignation as Celtic’s recruitment failings continues to frustrate…

The Celtic Fans Collective have issued a strongly worded eight-point declaration outlining what it believes are significant shortcomings in the club’s boardroom, sharing the message on X on Monday night.

Relations between supporters and the club have remained strained for several months, dating back to anger over limited transfer activity during the summer window and the team’s failure to progress through Champions League qualification against Kairat Almaty.

Further unrest followed the brief and disastrous appointment and subsequent departure of Wilfried Nancy, along with defeat to St Mirren in the Premier Sports League Cup final.

Celtic currently sit six points behind Hearts at the summit of the Scottish Premiership and have completed only two loan additions during the current window – Julian Araujo from Bournemouth and Tomas Cvancara from Borussia Mönchengladbach, with the latter deal including an option to buy.

The club have still yet to address the Green Brigade’s indefinite ban. They have also completely ignored fan media outlets with The Celtic Star part of the bizarre ban at media conferences which has lasted many months as Celtic claim to be reviewing that arrangement.

In its statement, the Celtic Fans Collective group said of Michael Nicholson via X: “Overseen a disastrous summer window where we were desperately unprepared for European qualification.”

“Defended Paul Tisdale despite the summer window and a poor January 2025 window.”

“Took six weeks to appoint a permanent replacement for Brendan Rodgers, which was incredibly poorly timed ahead of a top of the table clash, a major European tie, and a cup final.”

“Ultimately responsible for the failed decision to appoint Wilfried Nancy.”

“That decision cost a League Cup final, dropped crucial league points, and damaged player confidence.”

“Removed Tisdale and Nancy which was necessary, but left no coherent plan for January due to continued poor planning.”

“Turned to Martin O’Neill to salvage the season, then failed to back him with required recruitment.”

“We are now almost four weeks into the January window, and the only business done so far has been two loan deals, as the team sits third in the table.”

“Under no circumstances can Michael Nicholson be the Celtic chief executive Officer when the summer transfer window opens when he has demonstrated beyond all doubt that he is not capable of doing this job effectively.”

The Celtic Fans Collective will meet shortly after the closing of the January transfer window to discuss the way forward.

  1. Brian McAllister on

A chancer. A total incompetent and out of his depth. Another Celtic FC modest CV recruitment and the chickens now coming home to roost for this seemingly mentally paralysed guy. He hid behind Lawell and now that smokescreen has cleared we see this mute android for what he is. Sat drumming his fingers all day at his desk not sure what to do in a crisis. In charge of a world famous football club and a global brand and running it into the ground. Afraid of making a decision in case King Dermot on the golf course doesn’t like it. His level is also ran board member at a bank. I get the impression that his short lived predecessor (seemingly on a lifelong NDA ) Dominic McKay was the right appointment but wouldn’t play nodding dog to DD and Lawell and got the boot for being too progressive thinking.
He needs to go ASAP and Desmond sell up.
