Scotty Sinclair, curious criticism – McCourt and McGregor have their say

PADDY McCOURT, like Scotty Sinclair in the current Celtic team, had an excellent song bestowed on him by the support. Yet the Irishman has taken to social media to ask why there’s so little love for Sinclair these days among elements of The Celtic support.

“I always find it strange the hard time Scotty Sinclair gets from some Celtic fans,” Paddy posted.

“His goals and assists per games over the last 3 seasons have been super impressive and by all accounts he’s a great lad as well.

“Show some love guys,” Paddy asked the support.

Current Celtic Star Callum McGregor is also left wondering why Sinclair seems to have been the focus of growing criticism when he is actually playing really well, scoring goals and getting into brilliant positions in the games so that he is a constant threat to defences.

His link up play with Emilio Izaguirre has been excellent in the first few games this year and remember Sinclair scored a hat-trick on Boxing Day at Pittodrie.

He is on an excellent run,” McGregor told the media after the 3-0 win over Hamilton.

“The thing with Scotty is that I keep hearing people saying that he is not playing well and yet he is scoring goals week in, week out for us.

“I think he set his standard so high in that first season when he was almost unplayable at times.

“There isn’t a player in the world who doesn’t take a dip at some point but he has always chipped in with goals and assists – I think last season he scored 17 goals for us. It’s not bad, is it?

“The last few games we are seeing him going past people, he is calling for the ball all the time and he is winning penalties and scoring goals so I am delighted for him,” McGregor stated.

Scotty Sinclair, speaking in a media interview at the end of last week, addressed all of this himself.

“I had the best season, probably of my career, when I first arrived and then the second year I was still top scorer. I then went through a little stage of… when you have set that bar so high, then everybody expects it every week that goes by.

“It is just about me getting back to that level. I’m in a good place right now and want to keep improving and scoring.

“Is it asking a lot to maintain those standards?

“That’s what happens when you set it that high, that’s the standard everyone expects of you. All I can do is keep going, keep playing well. I’m in good place now and all I can do is build on that keep going forward.”

Sinclair is clearly enjoying his football again and the gradual re-emergence of his ‘Fast as Lightening’ song suggests that he is being to win over the support all over again.

“It’s always nice getting back to form,” he said.

“It couldn’t have come at a better time. We had a nice rest in January. We went to Dubai and came back with everyone taking their turn.

“What has changed? I’ve been working on it. Getting the run of games. Being in and out it’s quite hard to pick up form.

“Now I’m in so it’s up to me to keep performing and scoring. I can’t really put my finger on what the difference is but the main thing is the run of games and getting the confidence and form back.

“It’s up to me to come up with a different game plan and movements and what I’ve been working on and playing a different part of my game.

“There’s always more to come but I feel I’m in a good place now. I’m scoring, I’m creating and I’m back being positive when I get the ball.”

Scotty, incidentally, has always been a particular favourite of The Celtic Star!
